Independent experts give you ten convenient tips to really save on your international removal.
- Book your removal on time
Your move can be much cheaper if the mover is notified in time and if he can try to combine your move. In addition you can start doing things at your own pace and leisure. Be adviced to ask for quotations 3 to 4 months in advance. This will make your removal easier and less costly. - Request multiple Quotes
Select your mover with care and compare prices. Requesting a quote is simple and done easily here. - Pack and unpack as much as you can yourself
Ask your mover in advance for the special packing material, moving boxes, wardrobe boxes, stickers, bubblewrap, etc. During packing you can select what to take and what to leave behind. Start early as preparing a removal tends to take more time than you bargained for. (see practical packingtips). Most removal companies will not insure fragile or valuable goods if you pack them yourself. For normal items such as clothing and books, this will not be the case. Discuss this with your mover. - Select what to take and what to leave
Take only what is necessary. After all, everything you do take has to be paid for. Take your time to ‘clean house’ in the process. This will save you a lot. - Disassemble large articles of furniture yourself
Large furniture, such as beds and wardrobes, can often not be transported in one piece. Disassembling is often easier then you think. Mark the pieces to make assembling easier. Keep screws, bolts and keys in an envelope and tape this to the inside of the furniture. - Get help
Make a deal with your mover to help during the move. This will save you money. - Deliver goods to the mover yourself
Especially when moving only a few items, it is possible to deliver directly to the storage facility of your mover. To do this hire a small removal van or a trailer. - Consider temporary storage at your mover
It can be profitable to sell your house faster. You can store your household goods at your mover. This can come in handy when your house isn’t finished yet. You can of course opt for a phased delivery of your goods. - Take goods yourself
You will probably visit your new house regularly before your removal. If this can be arranged with the seller try to take goods with you whenever you go. Especially within Europe it can be interesting to hire a van for this purpose.
